§ 22-45. Membership; officers.

  • (a)

    Volunteers. The village fire department includes volunteers from the village and the towns of Wolf River and Evergreen. Unless otherwise provided in bylaws adopted by the department and approved by the board, the organization of the fire department shall consist of the fire chief, an assistant chief, a captain, a lieutenant, a secretary treasurer, one designated mechanic and as many drivers and firefighters as may be appointed by the chief and approved by the village board. The village board shall strive to maintain not less than 23 active fire department members, as possible with the mutual aid help from the town of Wolf River.

    (b)

    Active and honorary members. The department shall include regular and honorary members. Active members shall perform all normal firefighting functions as assigned by the chief. Honorary members are members who have served in active service and, due to age or injury, have retired from active service and have been deemed by the fire chief, confirmed by the village board, to be honorary members.

    (c)

    Bylaws. The village volunteer fire department shall adopt bylaws for the control, management and government and for the regulation of business and proceedings of the department, which bylaws shall be adopted by a two-thirds vote of the department members and approved by the village board. Amendments shall be adopted in the same manner.
