§ 26-175. Responsibility for removal; disposal restrictions.

  • (a)

    Removal required. The owner, occupant or person in charge of each building or structure or unoccupied lot in the village shall clean all snow and ice each day from, and shall keep clear from ice and snow at all times except as otherwise specifically provided in this section, all sidewalks in front of or adjoining each such home, building or unoccupied lot and appurtenant private crosswalks and ramps for the disabled.

    (b)

    Exception. If ice has formed on the sidewalk, private crosswalk or ramp for the disabled so that it cannot be immediately removed, the owner, occupant or other person in change of the building structure or unoccupied lot shall keep the walking surface sprinkled with ashes, sawdust, sand or salt.

    (c)

    Disposal. Plowed, shoveled or blown snow or ice may not be deposited near fire hydrants or into streets, alleyways, doorways, parking lots, rights-of-way or, without permission of the property owner, in driveways or on sidewalks owned or controlled by other persons.
